ROSE OF SAFFRON IN CONSUEGRA -OCTOBER-
This valuable flower, the Saffron, is cultivated in La Mancha Region. The town of Consuegra holds a festival during the last weekend of October, coinciding with the harvest of the flower. It is known as Rose of Saffron Fair.
Strolling through the village, visitors can find street performances which show how life was in the middle of the twentieth century, as well as folklore shows. In addition to that, it is possible to participate in the cleaning of the crocuses and visit the windmill of Sancho, the one which still mills wheal.

Furthermore, one day of this weekend, different specialities of the local cuisine are cooked by the villagers along the river, and visitors can try them after the cooking contest.

I must say that apart from this traditional festival, declared of Regional Tourist Interest, the village itself is worth a visit. It has a unique image of a castle surrounded by 12 windmills located on a hill, which could be the ones fought by “El Quijote de la Mancha” ( Miguel de Cervantes).
