EL ROCIO (I) -What it is and how it is celebrated-, El Rocío -Huelva-

 El Rocío is the most popular pilgrimage in all of Andalusia during which more than one hundred brotherhoods gather to pay homage to the virgin of ‘El Rocío’. An incredible number of people exceeding one million attend the festival attracted by the amazing mix of religious worship and Andalusian folklore.

‘JARRAMPLAS’, Piornal -Extremadura-

JARRAMPLAS -EL PIORNAL-

Saint Sebastian Day was approaching and I did not have enough time to drive up to the city of San Sebastián -The Basque Country-. So, this year, instead of enjoying my beloved ‘Tamborrada‘, I decided to travel closer, to Piornal, in the Valle del Jerte (Extremadura), where the ‘JARRAMPLAS’ festival is celebrated on the same dates. Near Death Experiences, As Neves -Pontevedra

The Near Death Experiences festival, officially named “Romería de Santa Marta de Ribarteme”, is a celebration held every July 29th in San Xosé de Ribarteme, As Neves, in the province of Pontevedra.

The highlight of this romeria it is the fact that some people participate in it in coffins, being carried by family and friends.  This is how local people show gratitude towards Saint Martha – patron saint of resurrection, after surviving a close brush with death or asking for a cure from a serious illness. Baby Jumping Festival, Castrillo de Murcia -Burgos-

The Baby Jumping is the popular name by which the Spanish festival of “El Colacho” is internationally known. It is held in Castrillo de Murcia, Burgos province, as part of the Corpus Christi celebrations (from Wednesday before Corpus until the following Monday). The odd procession will take place on June 14, 2020.
