‘Tamborrada’ of San Sebastián, Guipúzcoa-

The ‘Tamborrada’ of San Sebastian is a festival held every year on January 20th, the St. Sebastian´s Patron Saint´s Day. During the 24 hours the festival lasts, participants dressed as either cooks or military drummers from the Napoleonic period, march as ‘tamborradas’  playing drums and barrels throughout the streets of the city.

Folkloric Descent of the Nalón, Pola de Laviana

The Folkloric Descent of the Nalón is a fun and festive sailing event that takes place along the Nalón river in the county of Laviana, in the region of Asturias. Original boats are built by the participants, who have to sail the boat along a river which has very little flow.

Near Death Experiences, As Neves -Pontevedra

The Near Death Experiences festival, officially named “Romería de Santa Marta de Ribarteme”, is a celebration held every July 29th in San Xosé de Ribarteme, As Neves, in the province of Pontevedra.

The highlight of this romeria it is the fact that some people participate in it in coffins, being carried by family and friends.  This is how local people show gratitude towards Saint Martha – patron saint of resurrection, after surviving a close brush with death or asking for a cure from a serious illness.
